Former ‘Bachelor’ and ‘Bachelorette’ couples give the struggling Brad Womack and Emily Maynard advice on how to stay together
The tension in the air was palpable on last night’s “After the Final Rose” episode of The Bachelor. Just when Brad Womack and Emily Maynard were looking their most upset, Chris Harrison brought in former ‘Bachelor’ and ‘Bachelorette’ couples who are still together, in order to act as mentors for the troubled pair.
“We had to go through something that is very extraordinary,” explained Emily. “On top of everything else you have to deal with, every Monday I would have extreme anxiety. It was not a happy day in Brad Womack’s house.”
Ryan and Trista Sutter tried to provide encouragement and understanding to the saddened winner. “I guess what I would say to you, if someone was going to come up to you and say, I’m going to set you up with the perfect guy but you are going to go through some hurt, but in the end you will be with the best guy for you, if someone said that to you before [The Bachelor], would you say done, I’m going to be with that guy for the rest of my life? He is the perfect guy for me! Maybe you’ll say yes, probably,” said Ryan as Emily nodded her head. “Well that is what happened to meet this great guy, you had to go through some stuff to get there, but you are there, or almost there or there. The point is that you guys are together now, so move forward from there, so whatever works for you works for you.”
Trista, the former Bachelorette who found happiness with her now-husband Ryan, agreed. “Ryan and I have always said we met on the show but it is what we did with our relationship after the show that really matters. I think the bottom line is that you have that spark and that chemistry, and you have to work through the problems, just with that baseline. I saw something from you guys when the show first started. I love you guys together. I’m really hopeful that you’ll follow in our footsteps.”
Ryan added that he thinks he and Trista got stronger after watching the show, but cautioned “it’s just going to take a little work.”
Jason Mesnick, whose a parent just like Emily, and Molly Malaney also provided their sympathies but Molly emphatically stated “It’s about prioritizing what’s important in life.”
Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez said they try to “live in a bubble” and make it just about themselves in order to cope.
In the end, Emily said she is going to give it her best shot. “I want to see us in real life. I feel like we will have a clean slate. I’m not gonna have anxiety ever Monday night. He’s not either. I feel like we are going to have a fresh start.”
Brad proclaimed, “I’m fighting tooth and nail. I’m not letting her go.”
Despite reports to the contrary, we hear from sources that Emily and Brad haven’t split yet. “It is definitely still a possibility, but they haven’t officially split up,” says our insider. “They are doing all the requisite press and staying together for now, but nobody would be surprised if it ends after that is done.”
