When Diddy took the stage last night on American Idol, was anyone else wondering how weird it must have been for him and Jennifer Lopez?

In December of 1999, former lovers Jennifer Lopez and Diddy were avoiding gunfire and the police in NYC, but on March 10 they were on the Idol stage together. Awkward! After a very touchy break-up, usually nobody ever wants to see their exes in any way. Although JLo and the artist formally known as Puff Daddy have been at multiple red carpets and events since their split, last night was the first time they had such a close interaction.

How must it of felt for Diddy to be performing with his former girlfriend staring right at him the entire time!

Let’s back track a bit, the two stars dated for two and a half years back in the pre-Twitter days of the nineties. (Sidebar: why does everything bad happen when it starts with two and a half in front of it?) Shortly after Christmas in 1999 the couple was clubbing together when Diddy‘s entourage and another group started shooting at each other. Jennifer and Diddy were driven from the Manhattan nightclub called Club New York to later be stopped by cops, where a gun was found in the front seat of their vehicle. The stress of that situation and Diddy being charged for felony gun possession were the catalysts of a break up shortly there after.

Fast forward to last night, Diddy performed as Diddy-Dirty Money and Jennifer Lopez was in her normal seat at the judges table. Not knowing he was performing when I started watching last nights show I instantly thought back to their moment with the law, and I wasn’t even in their relationship. They had to have been thinking of their past! I know they are professionals but they have a history and that had to be quite the awkward moment.

So HollywoodLifers, Do you think that I am overreacting with this or would you avoid this situation at all costs?
