There are many expectant mommies out there who refuse to give up their workout routine — just like Jessica. Good for them!
Jessica Alba may be expecting baby number two (with hubby Cash Warren), but that hasn’t stopped her from getting her sweat on at the gym. It looks like the actress, 29, feels energized and excited about working out throughout her pregnancy — and an expert says that’s good for not only her, but her baby!
“Exercise during pregnancy can alleviate almost every known discomfort of pregnancy,” Fitness Expert and Founder of Stroller Strides Lisa Druxman tells HollyBaby.com. “Your risks of gestational diabetes, hypertension and obsteric interventions decrease with exercise. Your labor is likely to be lessened and you will have a lesser chance of cesarean,” she adds. “Best of all, you’ll feel better if you exercise during pregnancy.”
Lisa encourages pregnant women to workout for 30 minutes most, if not all days of the week — whether it be cardio or yoga.
“Just like the non-pregnant woman, a combination of strength, cardio and flexibility is preferred,” Lisa explains. “Consistency is most important as it is not good for you or the baby to jump in and out of workouts. If you workout a few times a week, then you want to keep that up throughout the pregnancy.”
The only kinds of exercise that expectant mommies should be cautious of are ones where you could fall (such as skiing) or could get hit (such as boxing). Sounds practical!
And the even better news is the post-baby weight will melt off if you keep up a nice fitness regimen.
“Women who workout during pregnancy tend to put on less weight and definitely take it off faster than those who don’t!” Lisa says.
So Jessica has the right idea. What’s your take on this?
