Dr. Drew says the ‘Celebrity Rehab’ patient ‘succumb[ed] to his illness.’

Former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr was found dead in Utah on March 8, TMZ reports.

The 44-year-old attempted to get clean in 2009 on Celebrity Rehab, but was arrested in February for possession of prescription pills.

Mike was reportedly kicked out of the seminal grunge band in 1993 because of his substance abuse. Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney released a statement about Mike’s death on March 8, saying, “Jerry and Sean are mourning the loss of their friend and ask that the media respect their privacy — and the privacy of Mike’s family — during this difficult time. Their thoughts & prayers are with the Starr family.”

Celebrity Rehab personality Dr. Drew Pinsky took to Twitter to say, “Devastating to hear of Mike Starr succumbing to his illness. So very sad. Our prayers are with his family.”

Mike’s father tells TMZ, “It’s a terrible shock and tragedy.”

Mike Starr was married to Sandra Starr, in Seattle Washington 1996 we have been married for 18 years. I feel so bad for the loss of my husband for 18 years of marriage. We struggled then and I tried to find away to come to terms with is his addiction then and now but still painful
He had a great live that we shared from those years on. Mike will always remember his fans loved him and as mush as he loved his fans
We will miss him

From his dad, this “is a shock” ???

What? Really? The guy uses with his son and this is a shock!? Total disconnect from reality.

Absolutely no understanding of consequences whatsoever.

Shocking… (not really). Just another stat. There are thousands more every week that aren’t public figures that don’t make the news. This is what Charlie, Lindsay, et. al., potentially have in store for them.

Trust me – I know. I made it out alive.
