Even though James Durbin was dubbed the early Adam Lambert of this season’s American Idol, the talented musician isn’t comfortable with the comparison!

James Durbin chatted with HollywoodLife.com at the American Idol Top 13 party in Los Angeles March 3 about being a dad, bringing back metal music and why he’s not nearly as much like Adam Lambert as you might think. Watch the video!

I am living in South Africa and was shocked after America have send James Durbin home. Don’ people recognize talent when they see him. I am convinced the voting pole went hey wire. Because how can he never get any bad comments and have never been in the bottom 3 and then just get booted off. Sis on America

LOL no one listens to metal? Really now? Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of fans of black metal, death metal, metalcore, mathcore, Viking metal, melodic metal, gothic metal, power metal, the list goes on as for subgenres. I believe the reason Pop gets the attention is because it’s vanilla, it’s not dangerous, and anyone with a decent voice can sing a pop song with some cursory practice (not EVERY song, but most of them aren’t difficult). It’s also all about the singing, whereas metal and other styles of music tend to focus more on instrumental proficiency and unique vocals. I understand why pop is the most popular thing, it’s easy to listen to and comparatively simple to make, and on a singing showcase no one cares about that sick guitar solo 2 minutes and 36 seconds in. So you’re right, people watching Idol probably wouldn’t vote for metal, because they wouldn’t like something so different. But don’t assume metal fans no longer exist. We are as loud and proud as ever and would throw up the horns if Durbin did a real metal tribute.

He wants to bring back heavy metal yet he sings Paul McCartney on top 13 performance. It seems AI has started the whipping.
