Want to see Tom sing and dance his way onto the big screen? That’s what’s happening — but I’m not into it.

When Tom Cruise isn’t working on his abs, he’s strengthening his vocals. The 48-year-old actor has confirmed he will star in the Rock of Ages movie — which Deadline.com originally reported last week — but why is Tom the lead role? Adam Shankman, who is directing the flick, admitted to Ryan Seacrest that Tom is already “studying his vocals” for his role as heavy-metal singer Stacee Jaxx. Yawn.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Tom in Risky Business, Top Gun and the first Mission: Impossible. But what is this? If anything I can’t wait for Tom to reprise his role as Les Grossman — the disgustingly harsh Hollywood agent we first saw in Tropic Thunder  – in the soon-to-be made Paramount and MTV film centered on the over-the-top Grossman character.

But if you’re a big Tom fan, get ready — he’ll be singing ’80s hits like Bon Jovi‘s “Wanted Dead or Alive” in Rock of Ages when the Broadway jukebox hit moves to the big screen.

We wonder if his much younger wife Katie Holmes, 32, and their little daughter Suri Cruise think this makes papa Tom look super cool — or totally lame!
