Bonnie Says: Lobby Your Congress Representatives To Save Planned Parenthood Funding!

Wed, February 23, 2011 7:43pm EDT by 40 Comments

HollywoodLifers — This is serious.

Celebrities like Julianne Moore, Amber Tamblyn, Wendre Malick and I want  to warn you  that you could  be out of luck if you need birth control advice, breast and cervical cancer , or STD screenings or any number of female health services.

The House of Representatives voted 240 to 185 on Feb. 18, on the Pence Ammendment to ban Planned Parenthood from receiving ANY federal funding. Now just to be clear-  this isn’t about abortion. Planned Parenthood hasn’t received federal funds for abortion services — only 3% of what they do — in years.

No, this is federal funding for ALL of the vast array of their medical services provided for women, most of them low income. I talked to Stuart Schear, from the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and he told me, that without federal funding, Planned Parenthood will have to close 500 of it’s 800 centers, which serve over 3 million women a year! That means 3 million women won’t get mostly preventative healthcare — contraceptive information and counseling, STD tests, pap smears, breast exams, HIV tests, and blood tests. Planned Parenthood is the LARGEST provider of healthcare for women in the entire country and has been for over 95 years.

For women like Carolyn Smithers, Planned Parenthood was literally a lifesaver. She was a college student with no health insurance when she went to her local Planned Parenthood for a pap smear, which revealed that she had cervical cancer, which thankfully was successfully treated.

For Franciska Farkas, 30, a videographer and yoga teacher, who has no health insurance, Planned Parenthood was the only place she could afford to turn to when she had a breast abnormality. “I was really scared,” she told us at HollywoodLife.com. “But fortunately I could go to Planned Parenthood and it turned out to be an infection, not cancer, and the doctors told me how to take care of it.”

What will women do if the House of Representatives gets its way and Planned Parenthood loses all its federal funding? You, I and most women in this country wil be affected in some way.

So why has the House attacked Planned Parenthood?

They’re out to punish the organization because 3% of what it does, is to provide abortion services — though not with federal funds.  The ridiculous things about this of course, is that without the contraception counseling and provision of low cost contraceptives to women provided by Planned Parenthood – there will be  more unwanted pregnancies and that could mean more abortions!

Celebrities including Julianne Moore, and Amber Tamblyn are urging you to contact your members of congress to support Planned Parenthood funding. Plus you can sign this open letter to Congress telling them you stand by Planned Parenthood. The Senate can vote down the Pence Amendment, and restore Planned Parenthood’s funding. For the sake of your sisters, daughters, friends, nieces and yourself, I urge you to sign the petition. Over half a million women have already done it!

Thank you and click here to sign the petition today and help millions of women!

I’m curious to find out what blog platform you’re working
with? I’m having some small security problems with my latest
website and I would like to find something more secure.

Do you have any recommendations?

True mrsO, they do abortions and many taxpayers are paying for these ‘services’ to be performed. Actresses in hollywood are more ignorant than i thought. I am not thrilled about the fact that taxpayers are paying for this, if the movie stars in hollywood are okay with it, than why don’t they pay for it, oops!! I forget, Hollywood actors and actresses DON’T pay taxes!!!

Planned Parenthood does abortions, and there is no getting around that. Furthermore abortion doesn’t benefit women, it benefits the men who want to zip up and walk away from responsibility. Just as birth control became a woman’s duty, so does murdering a tiny life in her body. Most of the time the men don’t even want to pay for it! So the whole feminist nonsense of females controlling their own bodies turns out to be females controlling their bodies to suit men who then wander off to impregnate some other woman, without regard to the progeny left behind. Not the “Product of conception” (I have always liked that one best-talk about newspeak!) the baby! The child! The life! It ain’t just plug and play guys-there’s more to it than that!

Wow, Faux News and the Right Wing would be proud of the majority of these comments. They have everyone believing that Planned Parenthood performs abortions. They have apparently done their job well if everyone falls into their way of thinking. As for the “right to be gay” comment – I did not know that there was a law against homosexuality – only narrow minded bigots who view the world through hate filled eyes.

Aborting an embryo the size of a grain of sand, I can understand. First trimester abortion is reasonable – except to the religious cults who believe that a god in the sky placed a soul in that embryo. They are entitled to that belief, but so are those who do not believe in that. Af far as nazi’s go, the ones who lurk around clinics and scream at girls in order to terrorize them back into their cars, yes that can definitely be seen as nazi-like. No one should threaten others from their rights as Americans. There really should be a seperation of church and state. I would never abort, but I can’t make that decision for someone else, so I’m pro-choice. My choice is life, their choice is their business.

Now, as far as federal funding goes, I can actually agree with anti-choicers that if planned parenthood provides abortions that their tax dollars should not fund that. I think that’s reasonable that they object to this.

So let me get this straight… Planned Parenthood is the biggest abortion provider in the country but this has nothing to do with abortion. I know that Bonnie doesn’t have the most politically sophisticated readers in the world, but still…

And the whole thing about having nowhere to turn for health care… Have you heard of a hospital? Community health care clinics? There are literally a dozen groups in my city that offer free health care to women. PP isn’t one of them.

You know what’s really dangerous to women’s health? Abortion. Half of all abortions are on unborn female children. So that’s about 25 million fewer women alive over the last 40 years due to this “pro-women” procedure. In countries like China, more than 90% of abortions are on female fetuses.

And here’s the dirty little secret that Bonnie won’t tell you: PP will still get paid for every preventative procedure it does. The funding at stake is their “unrestricted aid,” not reimbursement for actual services provided.

Ignore the scare tactics — anyone who uses them has a lack of facts.

Susan G Komen is a big contributor of PP. What PP fails to tell you when you “ask” for their services is that aborting a fetus increases your risk of breast cancer. Now isnt that condisending. I don’t purchase products that sponsor Komen for the cure, instead I purchase products that donate to the breast cancer research institute. I don’t want the yogurt I bought to pay to kill an innocent life.

For 41 long years, Planned Parenthood has skimmed billions of dollars off the federal budget to fund a business that exploits, aborts, and misleads women. As Congressmen Pence said, “…[T]his is not about Planned Parenthood’s right to be in the abortion business… This debate is about who [funds] it… Nobody is saying that Planned Parenthood can’t be the leading advocate of abortion on demand in America … but why do I have to pay for it?”

Check out You Tube, planned parenthood exposed for shocking reasons we should not be funding planned parenthood. If they are so necessary and vital they will be able to fund themselves!

Bonnie, as a mother of 5(?) I’m suprised you would want your tax dollars to go to a place that all-ready has a billion dollars in assests?

Planned Hood (as I call it) supports abortions on teens without parental notification (PROVEN MANY TIMES BY LIVE ACTION FILMS), aids PIMPS (See LIVE ACTION WEBPAGE), covers up child rape…and the list goes on.

You care about women’s health?Go to the public dept of health. What kind of WOMAN helps a fellow WOMAN KILL HER PREBORN BABY? …We read all about the struggle to concieve and adopt..open your mind.

Women & children deserve better than abortion. I am a single mom. I can do it, so can others.

Damn right I’m a liberal, very proud of it, and I’m perfectly capable of reason. I also understand FACTS, which is clearly something you don’t. Hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians, including babies have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since the wars began. FACT. Since the war began in Afghanistan, 200,000 children have starved to death every year. FACT. Of course we’re not targeting children. They are just disposable in a war aren’t they? As long as they’re not you’re kids. Typical conservative – babies are disposable as long as they’re in the Mideast. Your morals only extend as far as your politics.

I agree with most of what Planned Parenthood (PP) does and stands for, and but for a few bad, mis-guided employees, they’ve been there for many women (and men) in their time of need. Having said that, it’s not a “right” for PP to receive money from the US Government. They’re a large enough not-for-profit company that can and should be operating on the private donations of those who’ve benefited from PP’s services in the past, present or those who believe in what they do. During these hard economic times the government should be spending money on lowering the national debt, balancing ALL State and National budgets, National Security, and so on.

Any group that has any part of killing those who are not able to defend them self, like a little unborn babby even if it is 3% or 95% of it income that is being used for that. I would not want to see our goverment give them one red cent. Planned parenthood is not the only place a woman can get free personal health care for those with low income.

Kudos to the House for their vote. The Nazi comparison is just idiotic, Tia. Liberals and Conservatives both like to accuse each other of being like Nazis, and in this case especially, it’s just nonsense. Conservative opposition to abortion is not about depriving women of their rights; it is about opposing the taking of innocent lives. Pro-choicers like to act like a fetus is merely a blob until the moment of birth. That’s why they cry foul when pro-lifers start showing photos of aborted babies. The truth of what a fetus looks like at the various stages of gestation is an indictment against the practice of abortion. A fetus is a human being. It can feel pain as early as four weeks and has human DNA from the start. And in late-term abortions, women can CHOOSE to have babies, that could otherwise survive outside the womb, put to death. That should not be legal, and tax dollars certainly should not be funding it. Besides the issue of abortion, it is grossly misleading and simplistic to say that 6 million women will be unable to get “contraceptive information and counseling, STD tests, pap smears, breast exams, HIV tests, and blood tests.” Planned Parenthood is not the only place that women can get these things. Bonnie is trying to give the impression that the closing of a bunch of Planned Parenthood clinics will result in 6 million women dying from things that would otherwise have been prevented. That is propaganda.

There are many circumstances to consider as to the reason why one might choose to have an abortion. You shouldn’t be so judgmental especially if you are one who came from a “perfect life”.

Planned Parenthood isn’t just an abortion clinic. It handles everything female related Aids test, STD test, Cancer screening, birth control, emergency Contraceptive, breast exams, annual checkups. STD awareness and other sexually related diseases. There are a lot of women who can’t afford regular trips to the doctor’s office. Those trips cost a lot more than this clinic. I know because I’ve been to both. Most low income women will benefit from the lower cost rates of medicine and a visit to their doctor over others.

My opinion on abortion is that if one is not ready to have a baby than one shouldn’t be forced into having one. Adoption is just ridiculous. I know that some have done more than entertained this theory but the idea of carrying a baby for nine months only to turn around and give it up is just beyond me. That’s absurd and I would NEVER do that or even consider it. If you did decide to have an abortion, I’m pretty sure the people above (all that is holy) knew it wasn’t your time to get pregnant and that you chose another path. That individual will be born into another human body. Every woman should be able to make that choice on her own and not be forced to mother a child when she’s not ready.

The US has the highest amount of teen pregnancies. What does this tell you. That parents should pay more attention to their children, sons and daughters, and provide further insight into birth control and other sex related information instead of acting like it doesn’t exist. Hormones are raging but parents turn the other cheek and wonder why it’s happening to them.

I understand that most of you have been fortunate to live a life where you probably dodged that bullet and didn’t have to take on such a responsibility of making a decision that could possibly affect your life for the rest of your life. This is no excuse, you really should try to have an open mind.

you are mistaken if you think the funding doesn’t go toward abortions. They manipulate the books and the media then lead girls to have an abortion without telling them of the consequences. There are too many girls and women in counseling because of their agenda.

Just a reminder that in 1936 Hitler created the “Office to Combat Homosexuality and Abortion.” Much like the radical hate groups of today wish for, the Nazis took away reproductive rights of women and the right to be gay (and we know what happened to the gays). At the same time, the Nazis ordered forced abortions and sterilizations on women they deemed genetically inferior (depression, deafness, etc.) NEVER let a radical group, fueled by religious dogma, take away your rights and the rights of other citizens. Freedom of choice, freedom to control what happens to your own body. Your privacy, your business. NOT THEIRS.

It all comes down to selfishness. It is what is best for “ME”, versus a life that could have been. Unless you were raped, “YOU” were 50% in the decision to get pregnant to begin with, which probably could have been avoided had you been responsible. The only case that I would favor abortion is if I somehow knew that the fetus would turn out to be a liberal. YOU PUNK-ASSES ARE SO RUDE TO CONSERVATIVE WOMEN AND NOW I AM BEING RUDE TO YOU. HOW DOES IT FEEL? Congratulations to the anti-abortion comments of the people who finally “get it”. Looks like Bonnie didn’t get her way today…..HA!!
