Sara Canning previews tonight’s episode, ‘The Dinner Party!’

Poor ignorant Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning.) On last week‘s episode of The Vampire Diaries, she finally learned the truth about Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) real parents — and tonight, that bombshell might just put some distance between her and boyfriend Alaric (Matt Davis.) “Now Jenna’s wondering if she can actually trust Alaric,” Sara tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “She thought she was finally in a relationship for the long haul, so now we’re going to see her having to deal with that uncertainty.”

“There’s a wall that’s being built within Jenna now,” she continues. “We’re going to watch her deal with that — and she’s NOT quiet about her opinions. We’ll see how long she sits on that uncertainty before talking to Alaric.”

In Jenna’s defense, it’s not every day you learn your boyfriend’s “dead” ex-wife is your non-niece’s real birth mother. (Yeah, take a minute to chew on that one.) But since Mystic Falls is literally crawling with supernatural bachelors, it doesn’t take long for Jenna to take a shine to someone new — in this case, everyone’s favorite whose-side-is-he-really-on vampire, Elijah (Daniel Gillies!)

“She’s really intrigued by Elijah, and we see that develop nicely in this episode,” Sara teases. “When she hears about a dinner party, she says, ‘Oh, this is great. This Elijah guy is cool. I think I’ll pick his brain some more. I’m not sure what to think about my boyfriend right now…”

We viewers know what a terrible idea a Jenna-Elijah pairing would be, but as Sara puts it so eloquently, “Jenna is one of the last people to think everything is normal and human in Mystic Falls.”

Again I say: Poor ignorant Aunt Jenna.
