Billy Ray Cyrus Finally Admits He Should Have Been Miley's Father — Not Her Friend!

Billy Ray says his lack of boundaries sent Miley down the wrong path — what do YOU think?

Billy Ray Cyrus thinks he totally screwed up 18-year-old Miley and sent her behavior spiraling by being too lax with her!

“How many interviews did I give and say, ‘You know what’s important between me and Miley is I try to be a friend to my kids?’ I said it a lot,” Billy Ray, 49, tells GQ. “And sometimes I would even read other parents might say, ‘You don’t need to be a friend, you need to be a parent.’ Well, I’m the first guy to say to them right now: You were right.”

Billy also shows remorse about not being a tougher father figure in Miley’s life.

“I should have been a better parent. I should have said, ‘Enough is enough—it’s getting dangerous and somebody’s going to get hurt.’ I should have, but I didn’t. Honestly, I didn’t know the ball was out of bounds until it was way up in the stands somewhere.”

What do you think about Billy Ray’s brutal honesty? You should have taken Bonnie’s advice earlier!

Never say it’s too late to realize some sort of truth.

Kudos for Billy Ray. That took guts.

Sure he takes some blame but thats only after he unloaded the majority onto Disney and agents and anyone else he could think of. He’s first, he’s the parent. He could have said no to all those people but he didnt. Yah, I guess it’s good he is admitting he did wrong but he should have not tried to shift to blame to others before himself. I just cant see this as a heartfelt statement. He went years and years and year with out doing anything and now she’s legal and out of his control he wants to feel bad….AND go public about it. I dont really like Miley but I feel bad for these kids like her and Lindsay who dont have the parental support or limits they should. This kinda just makes me think of him as another Dina Lohan.

I’m glad he’s relised he could have done things differently. I pray that Miley will start listening to his advice more.
