HollyMoms, do your kids know what to do if they’re involved in a car accident? Read this inspiring story!
This is an amazing little girl. 4-year-old Averie Carrion of Granville, Iowa followed her instincts after the family pickup truck careened off the side of the road and flipped over, trapping her mother Jamie Carrion and her 1-year-old brother, Abel. Unbelievable!
Averie climbed out of the overturned car and made her way across a field, covered in one foot of snow to find help. The temperature dropped to as low as negative six degrees during her trek. Burr! She’s lucky she didn’t get frostbite. When she reached a farmhouse about a quarter mile away from the scene of the crash, Averie told the homeowners Patrick and Jean Zenk, “I think mommy is dead.”
Meanwhile, Jamie, was alive and of course concerned about her daughter, who she thought was badly injured in the crash. “I can see my son, he’s bleeding. I can’t see Averie and at that point I tried to call her name and she didn’t answer me,” Jamie told local station KTIV 4. Talk about a mother’s worst nightmare. She then called 911. “I thought she was unconscious and I thought she was pinned under the vehicle and I started to panic,” says Jamie.
The Zenk’s contacted authorities and Averie was eventually reunited with her mom and brother at the hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. “I only have two scratches,” Averie said. She’s so lucky!
We’re so impressed by the courage of little Averie!
