'Vampire Diaries' Spoiler: How Season 2 Will End (Hint: It Involves A Full Moon, A War & A Sacrifice!)

Sounds like the Mystic Falls morgue will be full to capacity this May!

There may still be 10 episodes left of The Vampire Diaries this season — including tonight’s all-new episode, “Daddy Issues” — but that doesn’t mean we can’t already look ahead to May’s epic-sounding season finale! “We have one more full moon that will be upon us before we hit the end of the season,” creator/executive producer Julie Plec tells TVGuide.com. “Bad, bad things are going to happen as a result of that full moon. We also have this impending ritual — the sacrifice that will break the curse of the sun and the moon. That’s where we’ll end our season.”

So for those of us wondering how long they’re going to drag out this whole sacrifice storyline, we now have our answer. But no Vampire Diaries answer comes without more questions, so here’s mine: Will Elena (Nina Dobrev) have her death wish fulfilled? Unfortunately, Julie doesn’t have an answer for that one — not yet, at least.

“It’s an option for the series because it’s a very important part of the books,” she tells the site. “The big questions are: When do we go down that road? When is it too soon? When is it the right time? I don’t know actually if we have the answer to that, so it’s something we talk about all the time.”

As for the immediate future, it sounds like we’re going to be seeing some serious fang-on-fur action — and I’m not JUST talking about a potential hookup between Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Michael Trevino.)

“The next few episodes take us down the road of what Tyler knows, what he learns and how it impacts his friendships with Caroline and Matt [Zach Roerig],” Julie teases — to which Paul Wesley cryptically adds, “There are unforeseen alliances.”
