Nicki Minaj reveals the truth about her difficult childhood: ‘We lived in fear that my mother would be killed by my father.’
Hip-hop star Nicki Minaj doesn’t let her troubled past stand in the way of success! Nicki spoke with The Sun about her abusive father and addict mother, saying that a terrifying home life made her the strong woman she is today.
Growing up, Nicki’s father was physically and verbally abusive, and only her older brother would stand up to him. “That was the only time we had peace in my home, when we knew there was another male figure in the house and he could protect us,” Nicki says.
But her father’s abuse toughened Nicki’s resolve to survive. “I am an emotional person, but I am a tough person,” she says. “It was very tough emotionally for me to have a parent who was an alcoholic and a drug addict.”
Her mother lacked the courage to leave her father, and the relationship taught Nicki a valuable lesson — never let someone bring you down. “I will cry about something, but I never let anything stop me,” she says. “I can’t be like my mum. I know I can cut ties and still make it. That’s been my whole thing. I’ve been able to say, ‘This isn’t working any more. You need to get out of my life.’ I keep it moving and it has worked.”
We think it’s great Nicki made it through her troubling childhood to become so successful! And her brightest days are on the horizon, with a just-announced tour with Lil Wayne and a new video in which she marries rumored beau Drake!
