Whoa! Chattanooga’s local gem, Lauren Alaina Suddeth, was just as good — if not better — than Kelly Clarkson was on her first audition!
The Nashville auditions on American Idol Jan. 27 were stacking up to be some of the most boring, lackluster performances I’d ever seen on the hit reality show — and then Lauren Alaina hit the screen and everything changed.
Dressed in a rainbow tie-dyed mini layered over skinnies, the 15-year-old Chattanooga native looked like she stepped out of a bad 90s rocker music video. Her bleached permed hair matched the style of her outfit and her accessories were bold and chunky in all the wrong ways. Needless to say, nothing about her look screamed, “Idol.”
Then she opened her mouth and crooned a country song — and it was game over. I forgot about the unflattering dress, the crazy hair and the tacky jewelry. Lauren Alaina is the best thing we’ve seen so far this season and she’s going to go far.
“It doesn’t matter what age you are…if you got it, you got it — and you got it!” Randy Jackson raved. It was unanimous — all three judges sent Lauren to Hollywood.
This isn’t the first Idol fans have heard of Miss Alaina. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe tweeted about her in October after her first audition. “We have just seen a really gifted 15 year old that may well win #AmericanIdol this Season. Brilliant talent in Nashville today,” he wrote.
And after watching her audition — she sang two songs, Faith Hill‘s “Like We Never Loved at All” and the Aerosmith hit “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” — I have to agree with Nigel. Lauren Alaina just might be our 10th (and youngest) American Idol.
