Kirstin Says: Lauren Alaina, 15, Should Be Our Next American Idol!

Whoa! Chattanooga’s local gem, Lauren Alaina Suddeth, was just as good — if not better — than Kelly Clarkson was on her first audition!

The Nashville auditions on American Idol Jan. 27 were stacking up to be some of the most boring, lackluster performances I’d ever seen on the hit reality show — and then Lauren Alaina hit the screen and everything changed.

Dressed in a rainbow tie-dyed mini layered over skinnies, the 15-year-old Chattanooga native looked like she stepped out of a bad 90s rocker music video. Her bleached permed hair matched the style of her outfit and her accessories were bold and chunky in all the wrong ways. Needless to say, nothing about her look screamed, “Idol.”

Then she opened her mouth and crooned a country song — and it was game over. I forgot about the unflattering dress, the crazy hair and the tacky jewelry. Lauren Alaina is the best thing we’ve seen so far this season and she’s going to go far.

“It doesn’t matter what age you are…if you got it, you got it — and you got it!” Randy Jackson raved. It was unanimous — all three judges sent Lauren to Hollywood.

This isn’t the first Idol fans have heard of Miss Alaina. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe tweeted about her in October after her first audition. “We have just seen a really gifted 15 year old that may well win #AmericanIdol this Season. Brilliant talent in Nashville today,” he wrote.

And after watching her audition — she sang two songs, Faith Hill‘s “Like We Never Loved at All” and the Aerosmith hit “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” — I have to agree with Nigel. Lauren Alaina just might be our 10th (and youngest) American Idol.

I loved Lauren Alaina since the auditions and she was definitely my favorite! And then so many people got better and made the competition even harder–cause no one could choose their favorites! But I’ve always thought that Lauren should win because she was my favorite since the beginning, but I didn’t know if the could beat Pia Toscano!

please do NOT compare her to kelly clarkson, kelly is way better. it’s like comparing james durbin to adam lambert. gosh!!!! nobody can ever come close to insane adam’s talent! but that being said, i won’t be surprised if lauren will win, heck the producer himsel is betting on her and so does steven. so she’ll probably win by virtue of special advantages she’ll be given being the inside favorite but not so much for her talent. i like her, though not my fave to win. and can she please slow down on kissing up to steven!!! but then again, it’s working! so good job! and what’s up with the crying? sometimes with no tears!!! she cried in vegas, imagine if she was given the aptly called “trainer from hell” who were given to the other youngsters, she would have quit! she cracks under the least pressure and in hollywood, pressure is what you eat in the morning!!!

lauren alaina’s performance of candle in the wind was perhaps the best performance of that song, ever! This girl is one month into her 16th year! She is absolutely incredible. Those who said she cannot be compared to kelly clarkson are right, but for the wrong reasons. Kelly clarkson had nothing on this girl at 16! Lauren may not win idol this year, (though talent wise she definitely should), because she simply does not have the fan base that others have. But when all is said and done, the only idol ever that will compare career wise to this girl is carrie underwood, and by the time lauren is done, i don’t think carrie’s career will compare either! Carrie was 22 when she hit idol; this girl is 16 YEARS OLD! Unbelievable voice!

She was great, but saying she was as “just good if not better than Kelly Clarkson” is a bit of a stretch. Kelly’s tone is VERY much nicer, so I don’t think she is remotely close to Kelly’s league yet. I will look forward to seeing if and how she progresses as the series goes on.
