The designer talks about her bad rap, Heidi Klum, and her upcoming collection!

Project Runway winner of season six, Irina Shabayeva, is definitely keeping busy these days — not only is she gearing up for her runway show at Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week, but she also created a collection for INC International Concepts. The star unveiled her latest designs this week in NYC, where we got to catch up with her on life post-Runway.

The super focused designer known for her snarky attitude admits she’s, “No Mother Theresa!” and says the image luckily hasn’t followed her since the show. “I don’t [get that] anymore. I think I’ve won people over with my work. When you’re taping you don’t really realize that it’s going to be in everyone’s homes and it’s recorded and edited and made to sound really bad, but I was ok with it. I thought, if you want the glory you gotta pay your dues.”

Irina said being on the show was one of the best things that could’ve happened to her — and admits Heidi is as sweet as she looks! “That’s the great thing about the show. I think I’ve always designed and I’ve always worked hard but the biggest pro about being on [Project Runway] is the exposure. You’re in so many homes and are viewed by a wide variety of clientele, ultimately you want to build that trust with your client.” So, what about presenting to the supermodel wonder woman, Heidi? “You know, when the cameras are rolling she puts her serious face on, but she’s really just a happy-go-lucky person all the time.”

This season, the designer is showing during New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center, and while she has so much to do she’s so excited about the opportunity — she even spilled on her designs! “It’s all very bold and there are a lot of statement colors. There’s one gold dress that I’m obsessed with, I can’t wait for everyone to see it! I hope the response is positive.”

Judging by her diligent work ethic and her talent, I’m sure it will be!
