Leah is concerned that Ali isn’t developing at the same rate as her twin Alleah. Now, little Ali is wearing glasses … is she OK?
If you watch the second episode of Teen Mom 2 that aired on Jan. 18th, you are well aware that Leah Messer is in the midst of dealing with some major medical issues with one of her 1-year-old twin daughters, Aliannah. Leah decides to take the infant to see a doctor to find out what’s wrong with the adorable infant.
“She does not bear any weight on her legs at all,” Leah explains to Dr. Lubicki. “Her hands do the same thing. Her hands don’t fully close. She was breech [at birth].” Ali’s twin sister, Alleah, doesn’t have the same problems.
“It’s pretty obvious that there are some deficits,” Dr. Lubicki tells Leah after examining the baby. “To me, it looks like her arms are too short. She looks a little disproportioned. There certainly are things that aren’t working. There seems to be some nerve rooted injury that is causing this. She probably needs to have an MRI of her entire spine.”
Now, a new development has us wondering if something could have possibly have gone wrong during with Ali’s breech birth and C-section. In the girl’s Christmas photo with Santa, Ali can be seen wearing glasses. The fact that she’s only one year old has us concerned.
Breeched birth is dangerous because it involves the baby coming out feet first, whereas ideally the head comes out first. In certain instances, the umbilical cord can become wrapped around the baby’s neck during a breech, blocking sufficient oxygen from reaching the brain. If this happens, it can cause mental and physical abnormalities in the baby.
Something could also have gone with the C-section which may have resulted in the Ali’s spine being damaged. If so, the nerve damage could possibly be what’s holding Ali from developing at the same rate as her sister Alleah.
The most recent update on Ali outside of the story line is that doctors are still monitoring her development problems. Apparently, she’s still not in the clear as on Jan. 13th Leah tweeted, “Going to Ali’s appt tomorrow..Kinda nervous.” And on Jan. 18th, Leah said, “Alleah is starting to dance it’s soo cute!” Strange that there was no mention of Ali’s progress, don’t you think? Our thoughts and prayers are with Leah and her beautiful little baby!
