'Sister Wives' Stars Won't Escape Polygamy Laws By Moving To Nevada Say Lawyers! Exclusive Details!

The Brown family is reportedly packing up and heading to The Silver State, but it might be more trouble than it’s worth!

Kody Brown is attempting to seek refuge in Nevada from Utah polygamy laws — but it won’t work! TMZ reported that Kody is moving his four wives and 19 children to Nevada so they can “explore new job opportunities” and because cohabitation is not a crime, but HollywoodLife.com spoke to two family attorneys in Nevada who reveal that Kody will NOT be safe there because polygamy is in fact illegal in Nevada.

“Nevada is no safe harbor for polygamists,” attorney Ken McKenna says. “If polygamists are trying to side step the law with cohabitation statutes, they will not get away with polygamy and they are subject to prosecution.”

Eric Pulvar, another family attorney in Nevada, echoed this same explanation.

“The cohabitation law in Nevada has to do with how you divide property and living together,” Eric says. “Nevada doesn’t recognize bigamy and it’s illegal in Nevada.”

Kody is expected to be moving any day now, but he might want to reconsider uprooting his entire family!

l If Cody is in fact legally married to all of these women then he is a polygamist. I thought that he legally married each of them, but perhaps he did not.

I dont agree with polygamy. To me, wanting multiple spouses means you’re not happy witb just one or that one is not good enough. I watched a guy on tv that allegedly had 30 kids with11 women. At least Kody seems to be tryingto provide for his harlem.

My husband and I are in disagreement on this one, but not like you’d expect. We do agree that since Kodie is not legally married to more than one woman, Meri, then he isn’t breaking any laws really. I suggest he drive through Nevada and on into California. Pretty much anything goes out here. The former governor was co-habitating with his wife and housekeeper for 10 years and during the time he was governor. Come on Kody and family – California will welcome you with open arms.

I dont agree with polygamy, but i dont see why he cant live with his “wives” in Nevada. It looks like it wouldnt be much different than a brothel and they are legal in Nevada… just a thought.

Kody Brown failed his family miserably. Polygamy is illegal. PERIOD! Law enforcement officials are not going to sit idly by & accept his “in your face” attitude. I’ve never seen Kody Brown spend one on one time with any of his children. How could there be enough time in the day? The wive’s inability to protect their children’s future, safety & security is telling. Patriarchs don’t act like 15 year olds. Choosing to go public for the money was as huge mistake. DUH!! Hey Kody, if you can’t support your family, stop having children. You have nothing to offer them. One last comment to this family on the run. Wherever you go, there you are!

After watching Sister Wives and getting to know this family, I think it would be horrible to split them up. They have shown us that polygamy doesn’t always involve living in a commune setting and doesn’t mean rape either. They have opened up their lives and exposed their lifestyle and in doing so, they are in legal trouble. This was a risk they took in educating America. They have created a loving, nurturing environment for their children. I think they should be left alone by authorities. The court system should go after abusive or neglectful parents, not the Brown’s.

Ive only seen on eppisode and your 100% wrong this is teaching 19 young people that its okay to have as many children as you want with as many people that are consenting to do so….my mother is muslim i think imo that polygamy is just another version of this culture without the morals of the husband being able to support the wives AND children and nit to succed what you can afford as an individual on sole income if they didnt want to be stipulated to law tgey should have kept their private life private and not goo n tlc

Isn’t this the united states? why is it ok for people of the same sex to marry but not for this family? We have terrorists living in this country and child molesters that deserve this attention not a family who has done no one any harm. To me it is only the weak who have nothing better to do with their lives and the bored that prey on familes like this. Just found this page, and read many comments.Iam very impressed, and very happy to find out that there are many people out there, with a true mind, and see what is happening with the Browns, totally acceptable. They are decent people, not bothering anyone, good parents, and providers, and I could go on and on. I am a Certified Registered Psychiatric Nurse, and have been for 20 years. To say the least, I have seen it all and heard it all. The Browns have made a choice in their way to live and are totally happy. Without a doubt, they could be even happier if all the big mouths out there would deal with their own problems, and leave them alone. It is sickening to read what they have to say, specially coming from their empty head. Everyone has the right to an opinion, BUT dont do it by putting others down. Most of them are loosers, bad parents and bad spouses, drunks, abusers, and so on and so on. Although this is not my choice of life, and when I first saw the show, I was turned off, BUT with an open mind, I have learned to know them, could not get enough of the show, wished that there was more Browns around, and would gladly love these women as my sisters. I cant wait for the next season. The lawyers who made comments, need to go back to school, study Socialogy and learned to understand people, and not judge them. Trust me, all of the BIG MOUTHS out there, have more problems than the Brown family, and they need to get a job, and get a life…..I feel sorry for them. They have some big issues to deal with, and their future look very saddddd…….

Hmm, Marie, interesting that you talk about how educated you are, yet can’t spell to save your life. Also, to say that people shouldn’t be judgmental and than say that anyone who dislikes this family are “losers” (it’s spelled losers, sweetie) drunks, bad parents, druggies, etc. Maybe you shouldn’t be judgmental. Kody is breaking the law knowingly and taunting law enforcement..perhaps if he weren’t fueled by greed he could have lived quietly but you don’t get to break the law on tv and and then become surprised when the cops come after you. These people aren’t bothering you, aren’t bothering anybody, then why should you… care… or try to laud your puritanical morals over them? They have a right to be left alone and live their lives the way they want to be. If a bunch of women want to marry the same man, or a bunch of men want to marry the same woman, and they are all happy with the arrangement, then quite frankly, its none of your or anyone else’s GD business. Esp. so for people who don’t even know them at all personally.

Kody said in the beginning that they are Fundamentalist Mormons, All the wives were raised in Polygamist families. This is why they are comfortable in a Polygamist family. It has nothing to do with if they might have an inferiority complex about themselves. It has everything to do with the religion that they practice.
