The actor sits down with Matt Lauer to share the good news that he appears to be cancer free!
Michael Douglas has revealed that after a grueling battle with cancer his tumor is gone and he looks to be cancer free! The actor, who will appear on Today Jan. 11, tells Matt Lauer: “The odds are, with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I’ve got it beat.” What amazing news!
Michael goes on to say in the interview that his experience has given him a new outlook on life. “I’m 66 now. You know, I’m fortunate I’ve got a mother who’s 88. She’ll kill me. She may be 87. My father’s 94. So, you know, I feel good about those genes. But it’s definitely a third act. And so you’re a little more conscious of your time in how you choose to spend it.”
Michael will still have to have monthly check-ups and says his main focus now is putting back on some of the weight he lost — by “eating like a pig!” The actor says, “I lost about 32 pounds. And I’ve put about 12 back.”
Michael began aggressive treatments in August for throat cancer, undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. Though he was battling a very difficult form of the disease, the actor remained optimistic and had a strong support system in wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and children Dylan, 10, and Carys, 7.
