Exes Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner were forced to be at the same public function last night. Here’s how they should have handled the awkward encounter!
Oh, dear. Still smarting from the pain of being dumped by Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Swift was forced to endure another indignity at the People’s Choice Awards last night — she was stuck in the same room with ex-love Taylor Lautner. Although the country cutie was down in the dumps and not feeling her best, how should she have handled a run-in with her former flame?
It’s tough to see a guy you were once in love with (and, in the case of Taylor Swift, a guy you loved SO much you even wrote a song about), but to prove you’ve moved on — even if you haven’t — you need to act like an adult. The 21-year-old singer should have approached her Twilight ex-honey early in the evening and gotten the awkwardness out of the way.
But how do you do this? You don’t need to speak for a lengthy period of time, but make sure you’re warm, confident and not radiating any sort of aggression or angst about the way your relationship ended. Keep it simple. Say hello, how are you doing, nice to see you and move on. Be the bigger person.
Another tactic you can take is to call your ex and let him know that you’ll both be attending the same event, so that he’s prepared for any sort of potential weirdness. Knowing is half the battle, right?
In any case, Taylor has the ex-encounter down pat. She greeted another ex, Glee star Cory Monteith, with a big hug backstage…but then, she didn’t write a song about him, either!
