LAURA'S LOVE LIFE ADVICE: Be Cautious If You're Dating A Younger Guy Like Selena Is Doing With Justin Bieber!

Selena Gomez is definitely dating the Biebster, while Sandra Bullock may be hooking up with newly single stud Ryan Reynolds. But should YOU date down in age?

There seems to be a hot new dating trend in Hollywood these days. Independent gals like Sandra Bullock and Selena Gomez are reportedly dating much younger guys Ryan Reynolds and Justin Bieber, respectively. Although it’s completely empowering, are these ladies making smart decisions by dating down in age?

Here’s the thing: age DOES make a difference. However, the older you get, it makes much less of a difference. Sandra and Ryan have much more of a shot at working out than Justin and Selena do — and here’s why.

Although there is a twelve-year difference between Sandra, 46, and Ryan, 34, they’re both adults. They’ve both been through messy splits (Sandra ended it with hubby Jesse James last year after he was caught cheating while Ryan just filed divorce papers separating himself from Scarlett Johansson on December 23) and wouldn’t be hasty about rushing into a relationship that wasn’t right. They are older, wiser and have made their mistakes. The two clearly have a lot in common, get along like a house on fire and are one another’s best friends; heir relationship has a solid foundation based on mutual respect and affection.

Justin and Selena, however, have less of a shot of making it work — and that’s because of their age. At 18, she shouldn’t be dating a 16-year-old boy. Women mature faster than men naturally, and by dating a high-school age kid, Selena is going to have to BE the adult in the relationship. This is a case of puppy love lust at best.

Sadly, ladies, if you’re dating a younger guy, you’re USUALLY going to have to deal with playing the adult. In my experience, most of them mature when they’re well into their 30’s. There are exceptions to every rule, of course, but it’s best to go into your dating experience with both eyes open, so to speak.

True, age is nothing but a number — but when you’re dating down in age that number COUNTS. Have you ever dated a younger guy, HollywoodLifers? Did it work out? Share your story below!
