'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood Tells Judge Her MTV Salary Is $280,000 A Year — Is It Too Much?

After 24 hours in jail, a judge orders Amber to appear in court and reveal what MTV pays her — and it’s much more than anyone thought!

It appears Amber Portwood is taking home some pretty major bucks for her role on the MTV hit show Teen Mom — to the tune of $280,000!   In allowing MTV to exploit her life and often volatile personal relationships, the young mom is making more money than most Americans — does this seem fair?

The Teen Mom star was booked on two felony counts and a misdemeanor for domestic battery on Dec. 27., after being picked up by local police at her home in Anderson, Ind., and brought to the Madison County Jail. Upon being released from jail on $5,000 bond, the 20-year-old appeared before Madison County magistrate Steven Clase, using a video feed from the jail, and was ordered to reveal her salary — $280,000!

The Herald Bulletin reports that Amber told the judge that her occupation was a “television personality” and when first asked to state her salary, her lawyer Kathleen Sweeney objected.

Until further notice, Amber is barred from contacting her ex-boyfriend Gary Shirley “indefinitely.”

If you really think about it, one does deserve to get paid well if every aspect of your life plus your child’s life is being documented for no other reason than public entertainment. If it was your life, I’m pretty sure you’d ask for that amount or even more

@Chloe Melas, your poll sounds like it was written by an idiot! You ask if the salary is fair, but then in poll, yes means no and no means yes. What gives? I’ve always suspected that everyone who writes for HollywoodLife.com is illiterate, and you prove my point.

Do you think Amber Portwood’s salary of $250,000 is fair?
NO! She should be getting back tons more!
YES! This is ridiculous! She doesn’t deserve a dime!

The answers don’t make sense, can’t vote.

This show, I understand the concept showing teenage girls having babies, and all that goes with that, like no money, but w/a paycheck like that, they are almost glorifying teenage pregnancy! What is that teaching teenage girls, get preggers, find a TV show and become rich?

The pay TV entertainers get is based on how much they contribute to drawing in the audience. If more people are watching because she’s on the show, then she deserves to be paid for that. As TV actors who play lead roles go, her salary is pretty low. This is basic supply and demand economics as applied to the cost of labor. Why people would assume that this girl should be paid less than her market value I cannot understand. Or maybe some of the people commenting her simply don’t understand how the labor economy works.

Money does not buy happiness – this is proof. She may have received large payments for exploiting her life – but she does not have her child and her “dirty laundry” is all over the internet. I doubt she is too happy right now.
