Shopping for others during the holiday season is stressful enough — let me help you find a get-up that’s both chic and appropriate for the slew of holiday parties that’s in store!

Right before everyone heads home for the holidays, your friend is throwing a festive cocktail party — while you’re so excited, you know friends and acquaintances you haven’t seen in a while will be present (including the really cute guy you were crushing on at her last party). You obviously want to look good, but with trying to get everything in order for the holidays you probably don’t have time to peruse the racks for a dress, nor do you want to look too done up.

Since velvet is so popular, I think it’s a great choice for a holiday party — it’s festive and even in all black it’s so much more refreshing than an LBD (just check out Kirsten Dunst). I think a long-sleeved mini is ideal for this type of an occasion– it’s dressy, sexy, and chic. If the party is more formal or you rather get dressed up, a strapless that incorporates the same festive elements (like velvet) is another great choice. Feel free to add a belt, tights, and pumps. Check out my picks below if you’re looking for something both effortless and sexy, just in time for the weekend!
