They’re known as “America’s Cheapest Family” for a reason, and they can save you a fortune, as well!

Annette and Steve Economides might just be our heroes. The couple, who have earned the nickname “America’s Cheapest Family” — and have even written a best selling book about it — spend $350 per month on its grocery bill, less than half of the $800 a normal family spends, and they’re telling everyone else how to do it!

Married since 1982 and with five kids, Annette and Steve struggled throughout the early days of their marriage without credit (they refused to live off of anything other than what they’d earned), but through research, planning and hard work, they were able to pull off a thrifty existence that still kept everyone happy and healthy.

Check out this story about a monstrous mom who kept her daughter to only 700 calories a day!

“It’s not rocket science,” Annette told the National Enquirer. “And since everyone’s hurting in these tough economic times, it’s more important than ever to watch every cent. Anyone can do it with just a little planning, and it will free up cash for other household expenses.”

Buying in bulk, like bags of fruit and vegetables rather than buying them individually, is a start, as is the idea of only going shopping once a week and stocking up entirely then. Annette and Steve plan out their meals for the entire week, then go to the market to take care of that menu all at once.

“The less you shop,” Annette says, “the more you save.” Words to live by HollyMoms!
