Shopping for others during the holiday season is stressful enough — let me help you find a get-up that’s both chic and appropriate for the slew of holiday parties that’s in store!

So the guy you’re dating invites you home to meet his family, and while you’re thrilled you’re stressing out over what to wear. Whether you’ve met his fam a ton of times or this is your first encounter you’re going to want to make a good impression. While I recommend wearing something conservative you can definitely have more fun with your look than you would for your office holiday party.

After seeing both Michelle Williams and Elle Fanning all wrapped up just like a present wearing dresses with bows on Dec. 7 I decided to choose a similar style. Being able to pull off the Azzaro spring frock Michelle is wearing isn’t easy — while some stars would’ve looked like an oversized doll in the sleeveless dress she looked so chic! Michelle finished off the get-up with Charlotte Olympia pumps. Elle looked just as amazing in a couture Valentino creation from the fall 2010 collection and a pair of Valentino pumps.

I know everyone isn’t crazy for this look, but it’s a nice way to incorporate a little fun while still dressing appropriate — and it’s also totally festive! You shouldn’t have to feel like you’re wearing a stuffy suit, but you don’t want to pull out your plunging party dress either — you’re obviously trying to make a good impression! I would work with a modest hemline, but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear a short dress above the knee. If that’s what you decide on, pair the look with opaque tights. Check out my picks below and start shopping!
