Nicole Richie to Ellen: 'As a Mother, I Have to Protect My Children!'

The Simple Life star, on Ellen DeGeneres’ show, talked about how she was able to stop a paparazzo from stalking her daughter, Harlow. She’s definitely come a long way from her wild child days.

Don’t mess with Nicole Richie! The writer/actress/reality TV star joined Ellen DeGeneres on today’s episode of Ellen (December 6) to push her new novel, Priceless, but in the process, talked a little about how she was able to get a restraining order against photographer Fabricio Luis Mariotto, who had been trespassing on the grounds of Nicole’s daughter Harlow’s school. Remember, Harlow is not yet three-years-old (her birthday is next month). “I have to protect my children,” she told Ellen to great applause from the audience. “And we won the case to keep him away.”

Nicole convinced her pal Pink to have a baby!

But Nicole’s chat with Ellen wasn’t all dark and serious. Aside from the pair planning a joint “princess” birthday party for Harlow and Ellen (who also has a January birthday), and making veiled references to Nicole’s upcoming wedding, Nicole described her kids as mirror images of her and her fiancé, Joel Madden. “Harlow looks just like me, but her personality is just like Joel,” she said. “She’s careful, delicate, thinks everything through.”

Her one-year-old son Sparrow, though, is a different story. “He looks just like Joel and acts just like me. Totally wild, crazy, a klutz, really rough, always covered in bruises,” she said with a smile. “Joel’s really tough with him, too. He’ll fall and I’ll say, ‘Oh, honey, are you okay? Are you okay?’ And Joel will be, like, ‘You’re fine. Get up.'” Can you relate, HollyMoms?

Nicole is beautiful. So nice to see she emerged from her wilder days so grounded. She appears to be an awesome mom.
