After being accused of negligence in his treatment of Nadya Suleman, Dr. Michael Kamrava insists that she agreed to be implanted with 12 embryos as part of a fertility study. Who do you think is telling the truth?
Dr. Michael Kamrava, the fertility doctor who treated the now infamous Octomom, claims that Nadya Suleman agreed to act as a “human guinea pig” and have 12 embryos implanted in her uterus as part of a study. He also says that she volunteered to go through with it and signed consent papers that listed the risks of the procedure! “She heard about it, we discussed it with her and she volunteered,” Dr. Kamrava said in a hearing at the Medical Board of California yesterday (Nov. 18). The board is meeting to decide whether he should have his license suspended over his treatment of Nadya.
Nadya, as we all know by now, became Octomom after she gave birth to eight babies in January 2009. The divorced single mother, 33, also has a six other children she conceived through IVF with Dr. Kamrava, making a total of 14 kids. After the birth of the eight babies, Dr. Kamrava was accused of negligence in his treatment of her, which claimed that she was not aware of the fertility case study. At yesterday’s hearing, Deputy Attorney General Judith Alvarado asked Dr. Kamrava, “Where did she sign to say I’m a volunteer to be tested as a human guinea pig?” And he responded that she put her signature on a consent form, which listed all the risks involved with the procedure.
Dr. Kamrava says he regrets implanting the 12 embryos, but faces losing his medical license if the allegations of improper treatment are proven true. He was already kicked out of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, but the group doesn’t have legal authority to prevent him from practicing medicine. Hollymoms, what’s your opinion?
