After suffering a miscarriage in 2008, the singer says she was “extra superstitious and overly cautious” — which is why she needed to take multiple tests before she was convinced that she really did have a baby on board! Did you do the same thing, HollyMoms?
“I was at home, I took a [pregnancy] test by myself, and then another one, and another one, and when Nick got home I showed him the first, second and third tests, and then we did another one together. We were both ecstatic,” says Mariah Carey about the day she found out she was going to be a mother. The singing sensation insisted on taking numerous tests before she would let herself believe that she really was expecting. How many pregnancy tests did you take, HollyMoms?
She lost a baby in late 2008, but the 41-year-old, who married Nick Cannon, 30, in April 2008 in the Bahamas, never lost faith that she’d eventually become a mother. “It’s always difficult when you are in love with the man who is your soul mate for life and you are both really happy and excited about a prospective child being born. So many women experience miscarriage and I knew that my faith and God would get us all through, and that if it was meant to be, one day it would be,” she says.
Mariah admits that the fear of miscarriage is the reason she kept mum about impending motherhood for so long. “I became extra superstitious and overly cautious because of what we had gone through a year and a half ago, so didn’t want to talk about it publicly for a long time during the first trimester.”
Now that the baby news is out, we’re all thrilled that Mariah’s having a healthy pregnancy and we can’t wait to see her and Nick’s bundle of joy. What do you think they should name their tot, HollyMoms? Leave your suggestions in the comment section below!
