Jessica Simpson has only been dating new man Eric Johnson for six months — and they’ve gotten engaged mere days after her ex-husband also declared he’s tying the knot!

It’s no secret that Jessica Simpson is besotted by new fiance Eric Johnson: she’s constantly gushing about how fantastic he is. But as in love as she is, it’s extremely suspicious that the singer revealed her engagement to the former pro football player just days after ex-husband announced his own engagement. Why the rush, Jess? Real love takes time!

Sure, we all love to be in love. And it’s obvious that, after turning 30, Jessica was ready to settle down and have a family. But how well does she really know Eric? And why does it feel like she’s competing with ex-husband Nick Lachey, who finally proposed to longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo after almost four years of dating?

I’m not disputing that Jessica really loves Eric, but that her motives may not be entirely pure. It’s possible that she pressured Eric into proposing to even the score with Nick, and if that’s the case, she’s not playing a smart game. A relationship should unfold organically and not be set by premeditated rules.

My advice to you, then, is this: don’t rush your own new relationship because of a former flame. Let love take its course. If you push it, guaranteed…it’s not love.
