Jessica’s fiancé popped the question with a gorgeous rock — and now you can get her nuptial look for less!

Jessica Simpson‘s fiancé Eric Johnson is obviously very thoughtful! Everyone was wondering why Jess was donning a ruby engagement ring Nov. 13, as opposed to a traditional white diamond,  and now we think we know why — she’s a July baby! Jessica’s birthday is July 10, and the birthstone for that month is a ruby. That explains why she flashed an 8 carat, $250,000 Neil Lane sparkler at a Dillard’s in Kansas City over the weekend. Luckily for you, Neil Lane designs a special line of affordable engagement rings for Kay Jewelers and we found a look-alike for just $199!

“Her ring may be a Burmese ruby; it has a rare size and shape,” says Aslam Bakshi, owner of Diamond Images USA, Inc. in Miami, Fla., “The deep color of the stone is intense, it’s a cushion cut, and it’s a hard-to-find ring.”

‘Tis mentioned on other sites that she bought this ring for herself. It was not bought for her by her soon-to-be husband. It is not what one would traditionally consider an engagement ring. To each his own.

I’m sorry but that ring is hideous! It looks like he got it out of a gumball machine.
