Miranda Kerr shows off her beautiful baby bump in a new campaign about the dangers associated with a pregnancy complication called fistula.
A very pregnant and gorgeous Miranda Kerr shows off her blossoming baby bump in a public service announcement about fistula, a pregnancy complication that affects women around the world. “Fistula is caused when a woman endures a complicated, prolonged delivery without sufficient access to proper medical care,” the 27-year-old Australian supermodel says. “For the 3.5 million women suffering from fistula, the injuries leave them incontinent and in most cases their baby dies.” Miranda, along with fellow Aussie Natalie Imbruglia, is one of the celebrity faces behind Virgin Unite’s End Fistula campaign.
Fistula is a gap that develops between the bladder and the vagina, or between the bladder and the rectum, and the United Nations estimates that there are more than 50,000 new cases each year. It is common in developing countries where women are married at a young age and give birth before their bodies are ready. But the condition is preventable and treatable, with the average cost of treatment being about $300. You can make a donation to the UN’s campaign here.
The Victoria Secret model is about seven months pregnant with her first baby with husband Orlando Bloom, 33. The couple quietly wed in a ceremony in July and soon after announced that Miranda was expecting. “I’ve always been open about wanting to be a mother one day, and I’ve always thought Orlando would be a great dad,” the Victoria’s Secret supermodel told Sydney’s Morning Herald. “I think having children and pregnancy is a part of life, I look at how models like Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio have done it and made it a part of their lives.”
