It hasn’t even been a month since Christina Aguilera announced that she and husband Jordan Bratman were getting a divorce — so is moving on this quickly with Benji Madden a mistake?
Relationships end – that’s a fact of life. Before you start thinking I’m a total pessimist, let me assure you I am the not — I’m simply a realist. So do I think it’s wrong that Christina Aguilera is trying to heal the pain of separating from her husband of nearly five years, Jordan Bratman, with a hot and heavy fling? In theory, no I do not!
In fact, when you’re going through a painful breakup, I think the best remedy is to move on with someone else, as long as you’re smart about your choice and careful not to make the relationship more than it is. A rebound romance is typically casual, always fun. Sure, he MAY be the great love of your life — but only if you’re the exception, not the rule.
However, in Christina‘s particular case, I think a fling with Benji Madden is a terrible idea. For starters, he’s the brother-in-law of one of her best friends, Nicole Richie. If it ends, things could always get weird between the two. Secondly, she’s in the public eye — and if she IS consorting with someone so quickly after announcing her divorce, it’s only going to make her look cheap.
But back to YOU. Yes, I’m an advocate of the rebound. Make sure he gives you something your ex couldn’t (even if that IS just a good sexual experience). Let him take your mind off your heartbreak. As long as you’re both clear about where you stand, and that you’re NOT in it for love, go ahead, play and heal!
Tell me about YOUR rebound romances, HollywoodLifers. Does it help to have someone new to ease the pain of a relationship gone bad?
