16 and Pregnant star Felicia Cooke says she doesn’t regret having her daughter, but she wishes she’d waited until she was older to become a mom. It’s sad to hear, but maybe her story will help other teens to avoid making her mistakes.
Felicia Cooke, a teen mom who appeared on a riveting episode of the hit MTV show 16 and Pregnant, has a confession to make: She wishes she would have had safe sex.
Asked in an interview with Radaronline.com what she would have done differently about her situation (she and the baby’s father, Alex, have a rocky relationship), the teen mom of a little girl named Genesis opened up and said, “Yeah, I would have used protection so I didn’t get pregnant.”
The now-17-year-old teen mom, the first person in her family to graduate from high school, continued, “I don’t regret having a daughter, or being a mom and taking care of her, but I wish I had waited, so I could be spending my teenage years like I should be.”
As she said on the MTV show, “We used a condom like twice ever in our relationship.”
On her formspring account, the Honduras native, who got pregnant after dating her boyfriend of a year and a half, stated her beliefs, writing, “i dont believe in abortion at all i m the one who went out there and thought i was old enough to be having sex and this is wat happened so i believe i should take care of my responsibilities and grow up.”
So what do you think, HollyMoms? Why are so many teens these days not practicing safe sex? We think it needs to start with education both in the home and in schools. The more young men and women know about safe sex, and also the risks that come with having unprotected sex, the better off everyone will be (well, maybe not MTV, who is making a killing off this hit show).
