The first 50 minutes of Grey’s Anatomy Nov. 4 were business as usual — and then things hit the fan! What the heck is going on?!
As I was taking notes during Grey’s Anatomy Nov. 4, I was getting increasingly concerned there would be nothing about which to write. It was a giant snooze fest — that is, until the Seattle Grace Mercy West world imploded in front of my very eyes in the last five minutes of the episode. Suddenly, my favorite lesbians, Callie and Arizona, were broken up (after three incredible years!) and my favorite surgeon, Cristina, quit. Seriously?
Throughout the entire episode, there was tension between Arizona and Callie. However, I NEVER expected them to break up at the airport gate before boarding the plane to Africa. Their final exchange was heartbreaking. Arizona: “I’m going to miss my plane. You take care of yourself.” Callie: “No. No. Please. Please. I can–” Arizona: “You stay here and be happy and I’ll go there and be happy…We are standing in the middle of an airport screaming at each other. We are over.” SOB!
Cristina (Sandra Oh) broke my heart. “I’m ruined. I’m dead. I’m wrecked,“ she told Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). “Why are YOU okay? You were there too, okay.” Although unfair, she blamed Meredith for what happened to her after the shooting last season. Although it wasn’t necessarily rational or fair, we finally established a reason behind her inability to move on. I thought she had a break through, but then she took everyone by surprise and quit at the very end of the episode. I feel betrayed. Do we think she’ll change her mind?
Owen Hunt’s certification process involved mannequins and I could only think of one thing the entire time: are we in an Old Navy commercial?
Owen put Jackson in his place, which I appreciated. Jackson got stressed and frustrated by Owen’s certification process and quit. Hunt witnessed deaths while he was in war and explained why Jackson needed to pull himself together, despite seeing deaths during the hospital shooting. “I’ve never used them as an excuse to quit,” Owen said. “You need to figure out how to be a doctor no matter what you’re dealing with…you don’t get to quit.”
April (Sarah Drew) stole Alex Karev’s rain bag to save their dummies during Hunt’s challenge, in addition to stealing an ambulance so her team would win. It was hysterical! She’s becoming less of an annoyance and more of a comedic device. Alex also saw a different side of April…is he the one who will take her V-card by the end of the season?
