Bonnie Says: Good For You, Demi Lovato, For Seeking Treatment– You ARE a Great Role Model!

Demi Lovato hasn’t been like a certain other teen pop star who DOESN’T want to be a role model. She has always embraced the opportunity that her talent and fame have given her to reach out to fans.

Before bullying became the topic du jour this month, Demi recognized the terrible toll that bullying could take. Bravely, she admitted that she had been bullied by mean girls at her middle school, and went on to make public service announcements about her experience on behalf of the Pacer Center’s Teens Against Bullying organization.

“It was the darkest period of my life so this past September I decided to home school” because of it. She described her experience as “verbal harassment,” but also talked about a hate petition against her.

Bubbly Demi bravely talked about her bullying experience on The View on July 23, 2009. She said, “my mom was there for me every step of the way” when she coped with the mean girls who tried to ruin her life. Let’s hope her mother, Dianna Hart DeLaGarza. is giving her the mega-support she needs right now.

Demi — star of the Camp Rock films — has taken her role model responsibilities seriously and now I’m glad she’s taking her own personal issues seriously and is getting the help she needs! Wishing you the best, Demi!
