Celine Dion just gave birth to twin boys, but the singer revealed in an interview done just before the babies were born that she was originally expecting triplets.

Just when we thought we knew everything about Celine Dion‘s pregnancy (with twin boys, who were born on Oct. 23), we learned today that the songstress and her husband, Rene Angelil, were expecting three babies, but sadly lost one early in the pregnancy.

Rene talks about the birth of Eddy and Nelson!

In an interview with a French news station, the new mom of Nelson and Eddy, revealed that shortly after finding out that she was expecting triplets, one of the baby’s hearts stopped beating. “He chose to let go to give space to his brothers to grow,” she says of the loss.

It must have been a crushing blow for Celine, who had unsuccessfully undergone IVF six times, and suffered a previous miscarriage. But the pregnancy progressed fairly smoothly after that, and now Celine, 42, her husband and 9-year-old son Rene-Charles are enjoying every second with her newborn twins. “When Saturday at 11:11 came, and they showed us the first baby that was crying, we were crying,” René, 68, says. “It was a very emotional moment, and even though we didn’t speak to each other, we were both thinking about the time it took. We are very lucky, very privileged and very fortunate to have these boys.”
