When President Obama took to Jon Stewart’s special Washington set on the Daily Show and gave him a full 15 -minute interview last night, he demonstrated EXACTLY why voters are deserting him in droves.
He CALMLY told us that his administration has had historic achievements. He agreed that the slogan that helped him win the last presidential election, “Change you can believe in,” needed to have the anew dd-on – “but we have to work on it.” He continually repeated that change “is a work in progress.”
President Obama, you are right! We the people are unreasonable. We want our change immediately! We want our jobs back! We want our mortgages fixed! We want better education! Lower taxes!
But we weren’t sure we want healthcare, especially after all the crazy ads that have onvinced us that Obamacare will raise our premiums and send our grannies to death panels!
In any case, we wanted all the good stuff fast, especially JOBS! Instead, you keep telling us that it will take longer than 18 months to make these things happen.
And when you tell us these things, you say them so quietly and calmly (like you did last night on the Daily Show), we feel gypped!
We want fiery change! We want emotion — we respond to that. Having you get worked up makes us feel like you care and that you have accomplished something. It’s the secret of Sarah Palin. She’s fired up and fun to listen to. People forget that she’s full of BS and has actually accomplished nothing except making herself a whole lot richer.
With Jon Stewart, you had a sympathetic forum and an opportunity to give it right back to the Republicans and the the Tea Party, who’ve done nothing to help the jobless except rant about the deficit.
Why didn’t you rant about how real people don’t care about the damn deficit no matter what the Republicans go on about? I can guarantee you that no one wakes up in the morning sweating about the deficit but they do wake up freaked out that they have lost their job or may lose it.
Why didn’t you give us example after example of jobs you created — because you did — and of more jobs that are on the way? You could have given us sob stories about all the people who are about to be out of work because the Republicans won’t re-stimulate and fund all the fantastic and necessary state jobs that you created and supported.
And here’s another thing: You never stuck it to the Republicans for creating the Great Recession in the first place. Why don’t you LOUDLY lay blame where it belongs and ask the electorate how they could trust the bums enough to vote them back?
Sorry, Mr. President, but tough times call for tough talk. People want to hear that from you– not just a reasonable discussion about “notions” that you have.
The sad thing is that you and your administration have accomplished a ton, but because you won’t shout it from the rooftops even on a Dem-friendly show like Jon Stewart’s, we the public will end up back with the same crowd in Congress that got us into so much trouble in the first place.
