The shocking news just broke that Billy Ray and Tish are divorcing after 17 years of marriage — Miley must be absolutely devastated!

Billy Ray and Leticia “Tish” Cyrus announced in a statement Oct. 27 that they were ending their marriage. The couple were married in 1992 shortly after their daughter Miley Cyrus was born. The couple filed for divorce today in their hometown of Nashville, TN., citing “irreconcilable differences.”

“As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family,” the couple said in a statement to People magazine. “We are trying to work through some personal matters. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers.”

The soon-to-be exes have two other children together, Noah, and Braison, along with two children from Tish’s first marriage, Trace, 21, and Brandi, 23.

HollywoodLife.com spoke with clinical psychologist Dr. Mary Lamia, PhD, who confirmed that it is absolutely possible for a teenager to act out when her parents are going through a divorce.

“When adolescents are anxious or depressed they don’t show it the same way as adults. They show it by acting out,” Dr. Lamia said. “In general, ‘acting out’ behavior consists of drug abuse, sexual acting out, sexual behavior, or any behavior that distracts you or distracts other people. The typical behaviors are: drugs, sex, and over-stimulating activities.”

Another psychologist, Dr. Lawrence Balter, PhD, agrees with this assessment.

“It’s not unusual for a teenager to act out when there’s trouble at home,” Dr. Balter said. “Whenever there’s a divorce, naturally a young person is going to experience a lot of anxiety and tension and personal turmoil. Sometimes acting out can be thought of as a way of running away from upsetting feelings.”

Do YOU think this is why Miley has been dressing and acting so provocatively?
