The Canadian songstress gave birth to twin boys Saturday morning: no names yet, but they’re both a healthy five lbs., and docs say the delivery went ‘according to plans.’
After a long, public struggle with fertility treatments, Celine Dion and husband Rene Angelil welcomed twin boys to the world in West Palm Beach, Fla., a week after being admitted to St. Mary’s Medical Center there to forestall the kids’ early arrival.
According to a report in the Palm Beach Post, the babies arrived by C-section at 11:11 a.m., then 11:12 a.m., four weeks ahead of due date. Boy #1 weighed in at five pounds ten ounces, and Boy #2 at five pounds four ounces. The newborns have yet to be named.
Proud papa Angelil, 68, with whom Dion has a nine-year-old son, also called Rene, gushed about the birth to the media.
“This is (the) greatest thing that could happen to us,” Angelil said. “Celine is doing fantastic. She is resting completely.” And he also shared his thoughts about being there at the moment of birth: “I did cut the cords, both of them…and it’s a great feeling and I hope to provide to them all the love that I can for as long as I can,” said Angelil, meltingly.
One last fun fact: The twins, according to one of Celine’s docs, were blessed with an “unusual” amount of hair.
