Hey girlfriends – if you have big dreams but don’t know how to make them happen, then dig into Today show co-host Hoda Kotb’s new book – Hoda – How I Survived War-zones, Bad Hair, Cancer and Kathie Lee ($25).

Read here for Hoda’s inspiring get-your-act together advice, that she gave directly to you, HollywoodLifers. Here’s her 6-point success plan for YOU!

Hoda’s Key Advice #1: Don’t Settle For Safe: “If you want to be VERY successful in whatever career you chose, you have to take risks,” says Hoda. “Listen, a boat is safe in the harbor, but that’s not where it’s supposed to be. You have to continue to challenge yourself to go for a more senior or challenging position or job, when you’re ready. You can’t get complacent.”

Hoda’s Key Advice #2: If You Don’t Love The Job or Career You’re In – You Have to Switch: “I always thought it was important to fall in love with my job. Hell on earth is wishing you were somewhere else or could be someone else,” says Hoda. On the other hand – if you have to stay in a certain job because you need to – i.e. there’s nothing else available in these recessionary times – then make the absolute most of it.

“Even if I worked at Staples, I’d want to be the very best employee there,” says Hoda. “I’d learn everything I could at Staples.” In other words, if you’re stuck in a certain position, for whatever reason, make the most of the situation. Don’t mope and don’t grumble.

Hoda’s Key Advice #3: If You Want to be Wildly Successful in Your Career – You Will NOT Have Balance in Your Life: “You have to be realistic – you can’t be good at everything, all the time,” says Hoda. “There will be times that you have an ‘unbalanced’ life. If you’re talking about achieving big goals in your career – you have to drill down and swing for the ball.”

So accept the fact that there is a price to be paid for success – you won’t have as much time as you may want for friends or family or hobbies. There are only 24 hours in a day.

Hoda’s Key Advice #4: You CAN Be Hugely Successful Career-Wise AND Find Love!: “At the end of the day I don’t think there’s any better feeling than falling in love,” believes Hoda. “And I feel you can have both love and a terrific career, but you can’t have equal time for both every day.”

Hoda’s Key Advice #5: You Must Find A Man Who Doesn’t Need Your Attention Every Minute: “Sometimes your husband has to understand that you’re having a tough day or you’re under pressure, and you aren’t able to give him total attention,” says Hoda. “You have to find a guy who won’t run for the hills every time you can’t be there for him, every minute.”

Hoda’s Key Advice #6: If You Want a Promotion – Ask For It!: “As women, we often don’t like to brag, but there is a point when you have to raise your hand and say – ‘I can do this’. You can’t just sit in the front row and just wait to be noticed. You have to go and ask for that promotion,” stresses Hoda.

In fact, that’s exactly how Hoda landed her fabulous job as co-host of the Today show’s fourth hour. She made an appointment with the CEO of NBC Universal, Jeff Zucker, and TOLD him why she’d be the best person to host the new hour of the Today show. Then she made an appointment with Steve Capus, president of the News Division at NBC – and asked again! The rest is history!

So go for it girls. For more of Hoda’s inspiring make-sense advice, read the rest of her book – Hoda: How I Survived War Zones, Bad Hair, Cancer and Kathie Lee!
