Jessica and Eric have only been dating for five months — so is she jumping the gun by declaring her love?

When you’re in love, you want the world to know it, right? Jessica Simpson is no different from the rest of us — aside from the fact that she’s always a wee bit premature when it comes to openly discussing her feelings, like announcing that she’s “in love” with boyfriend Eric Johnson after just five months of dating!

“As far as Eric and I go, we’re just best friends. He’s my dude! I love him,” the 30-year-old singer told People, adding that he MIGHT even be ‘the one’! “I never go to that because I already went there, so, I’m not gonna jinx my own self,” she says. “He’s the one for me right now! I’m very happy, I’m in a great place and if right now could last forever, I’d take it.”

Jessica has a long history of revealing too much about her love life — from her televised marriage to Nick Lachey to her non-stop gushing over ex-boyfriend John “sexual napalm” Mayer – and her openness never seems to do her any favors.

Is five months too soon to actually be in love? I can’t answer that — everyone moves at their own pace. Some relationships take a year to blossom, while others literally fall in love at first sight. But is five months (the couple has been dating since May) too soon to be discussing it with all and sundry? The answer to that question is a definitive and resounding YES! Jessica should revel in having her own little secret from the rest of the world; something as important as true love should be kept private, at least temporarily.

When speaking about their dynamic in public, Jess is best off being vague about her emotions and not making any bold statements, like the following. “This [relationship] is just normal, thank God,” she continued to tell People. “He’s very, very supportive. [I] couldn’t ask for a better man in my life right now.”

5 months isn’t too early it’s just she falls in love with every guy she dates. She’s never without a guy. She needs time to heal between relationships.

At age 32 I met a 33 year old at a pre-wedding dinner. (By accident) Five days later we got married. By the way, it was HIS pre-wedding dinner! When you really fall in love time does not matter. Five months is a long time Hollywood-wise. You should be able to declare your love regardless of how long you’ve known the guy/gal.

I don’t think 5 months is too early to say you are in love! When I met my husband we fell in love right away and were even saying it a month in… here we are 4 years later just as in love as we have ever been! Good for Jessica!
