The host of Extra and the star of the new VH1 reality show, Mario Lopez: Saved By the Baby says his one-month-old daughter, Gia, has changed his life: “I think father is the role I was born to play.”

We always thought Mario Lopez was a bit of a softie, but the buff TV host is really showing his warm and fuzzy side when he talks about his newborn daughter, Gia, who was born on Sept. 11.The 37-year-old can’t take his eyes off his little girl, and already thinks he can see a resemblance! “She’s constantly changing,” Mario tells OK! magazine, “but she’s got these slight dimples.” Just like her daddy!

Little Gia has a full head of hair, (also just like her daddy!), and Mario says the first thing he thought when she was born and he and girlfriend Courtney Mazza got to see her was, “She had so much hair! I always thought babies were bald. She needed a haircut the second she was born!”

After a rough start in which he put Gia’s diaper on backwards (“with underwear, you have a tag so you can tell the front and the back”), Mario’s self-confidence is not lacking when it comes to what kind of dad he’s going to be. “Awesome,” he said. “I think I’m going to be a great dad.”

And Mario is hoping that little Gia will soon have some siblings. “It’s up to Courtney, but I’d like to have all the kids right away,” he said. “I like when kids are raised close in age because I was raised that way with my sister and cousin. You create great bonds and memories.”
