Taylor Swift has done it again. With the release of ‘Back To December’ off her much anticipated third album, ‘Speak Now’ she’s showing a side of her that goes beyond crushing and baking cookies!

We’ve been super excited to get our hands on Taylor Swift‘s new single “Back To December” and now that we’ve had it playing on repeat we gotta admit she’s done a fantastic job showing her new found maturity through her music.

In the past we’ve listened to 20-year-old Taylor croon about crushing, boyfriends and best friends. Taylor’s signature songs are about guys who have wronged her in the past and broken her heart. With “Back To December” Tay took a totally different turn and caught everyone of guard by singing about her own faults! She is singing an apology to a boy ::cough::Taylor Lautner::cough who she took for granted and mistreated.

Her regret is sincerely and sweetly sung in a way that raises goosebumps, especially during the chorus:

So this is me swallowing my pride,
Standing in front of you saying I’m sorry for that night,
And I go back to December all the time.
Turns out freedom ain’t nothing but missing you,
Wishing that I realized what I had when you were mine.
I’d go back to December, turn around and make it all right.
I go back to December all the time.

What a heartbreaker! We’re glad to see Taylor has tapped into a deeper side of herself, but we gotta wonder what Taylor Lautner thinks of this belated apology…could Team Taylor be back on in 2011?
