This pumpkin growing in the English countryside is gaining weight at an astounding rate of 28 pounds every day!
Who wants some pumpkin pie? How about, oh, a thousand of them? You might be able to get that many from this pumpkin alone, seeing as how it’s, y’know, almost 1,700 pounds! Twin brothers Ian and Stuart Paton, 49, have been growing giant pumpkins in their nursery in Hampshire, in the south of England, for more than 30 years, and this is their biggest one yet! Weighing in at over 1,650 pounds, you’d need a chainsaw to carve it!
“We want the world record and we’re going to get it,” Ian told Britain’s Daily Mail. “This may be our lucky year.” The brothers said the pumpkin is gaining weight at the rate of about 28 pounds each day. That’s the same as a 2½-year-old! “The chart we use to approximate the weight of a pumpkin is based on a combination of three measurements. But we expect a difference of five per cent each way when it is weighed for real. The current world record weight is 1,725lbs, so if this difference falls in our favor, we’ll have a new world record.”
We wish the brothers Paton luck, but all we really know for certain is, we wouldn’t want that monster sitting on our doorstep!
