Kody Brown and his family are at the center of a polygamy investigation by Utah authorities, and they are clearly taking it very seriously by hiring a well-known attorney to represent them!
Kody Brown, practicing polygamist dad-of-sixteen, and husband to four women, is facing up to five years in jail if the Utah County Attorney decides to charge the Brown’s with violating polygamy laws — and TMZ reports that the Brown family has hired famed constitutional law expert and law professor, Jonathan Turley to help save them from jail.
You might recognize Jonathan’s name because he’s a frequent contributor on TV news, talking about highly controversial matters like the Terri Schiavo case of 2005. Jonathan is a law professor at The George Washington University Law School and teaches criminal procedure, and environmental law. We’re not sure how Kody and Jonathan got hooked up, but Turley has said he will make sure his clients are not prosecuted.
Turley points out that there is “no evidence of child abuse,” so Utah prosecutors are unlikely to prosecute. It is true that Utah has only criminally charged two people in the past ten years with violating polygamy laws, but maybe this time the Browns will be setting an example?
It will be interesting to see what happens, stay tuned!
