Sure, we get it — Gaga is the popular/controversial choice. But is putting Lady Gaga and Beyonce in the top ten of Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women really meaningful?
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano, three Supreme Court justices — these are just five of the women who came below LG and Beyonce on Forbes’ Top 100 Most Powerful Women list, just released today.
First Lady Michelle Obama took the top spot — great, wonderful, hooray, etc. But Gaga was #7, Beyonce #9, and though they richly deserve their success, do we really think they’ve got more Power (with a capital P) than the woman who is fourth in line to the Presidency?
Here’s the obvious counterpoint: Cultural/media princesses like Gaga and B influence young women all over the globe, and can have tremendous impact with their mere presence.
But when it comes to the women flipping the switches, pulling the levers, and shifting the gears that make things work for our lives, well, let’s not go all Gaga over Gaga.
What do you think?
