While the Brown family’s ability to speak so intelligently and in a completely frank manner definitely helps educate everyone on their lifestyle, why is there still little to no talk of their pasts?
Sister Wives returned this week with not one but two new episodes, dealing with the move of possible new wife Robyn Sullivan from her home five hours away to a house around the corner from Kody Brown and his three wives, Meri, Janelle and Christine. This gave the show enough time to give us a somewhat limited history of Robyn’s life, specifically her divorce, but we still know so little about anyone elses past!
The show has succeeded thus far in showing that the Brown family is, upon current inspection, no different than any other American family, save their polygamous lifestyle. Oh, and the frequent use of the words “court” and “courting.”
To really move on however, the show is going to need to give us more of a look at what brought these four women and one man to where they are today. Did they all grow up in polygamous sects? What made them choose this lifestyle? What are their biggest fears?
The show is making a huge impact already, and if it starts getting more in-depth it can have an even bigger one!

Did you not see the first episode? Each wife talked about their life before becoming a wife. Meri and Christine both grew up in polygamist families, I don’t think Janelle did. They all were pretty clear as to why they chose this lifestyle, how they came into the family etc. Do your research first if you’re going to publish an article on the subject.
