Utah police are investigating the Brown family on suspicion of polygamy, but TLC tells HollywoodLife.com this will NOT cause them to cancel the show!

The star of TLC’s Sister Wives, 41-year-old Kody Brown, could be thrown in jail if he’s found guilty of  practicing polygamy in his hometown of Lehi, Utah. But even if the husband with four wives is put behind bars, TLC won’t pull the show.
HollywoodLife.com contacted a spokesperson for the show, who revealed that in spite of the investigation into the lives of Kody and his four wives – Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn – they will continue airing the show.

Sister Wives, a seven-part documentary series following the lives of Kody and his wives, brought in 2.3 million viewers during its Sept. 26 premiere. Despite the hype surrounding the show, however, polygamy is illegal in all statesl. In the Browns’ home state of Utah, it’s a felony that could land Kody and his wives in jail for up to five years.

The Browns released the following statement in the midst of all the criticism, saying they don’t regret the decision to air their lives for all the world to see:

“We are disappointed in the announcement of an investigation, but when we decided to do this show, we knew there would be risks. But, for the sake of our family, and most importantly, our kids, we felt it was a risk worth taking.”

Do YOU think TLC should continue to air the reality show?

Utah is a common law state. Since he has been living as husband-and-wi(ves) with the 2nd & 3rd wife long enough for common law to kick in, in the eyes of the law he is married to the first 3 wives. That constitutes poligamy.

Right… in the eyes of the law, the 2nd and 3rd wives are technically girlfriends. The only way to break the law against polygamy is to have a legal marriage, with a government filed marriage certificate, with more than one person at a time… the marriages in this show are merely symbolic. Few people would be dumb enough to have multiple marriage certificates at the same time.

Why would he be thrown in jail? They said he was legally married to the first wife only, then “church” married to the next two. So where’s the crime?
