Infuriation quickly turned to love for Russell, who says that he could have hated Katy after she threw a bottle at his head during VMA rehearsals last year — but thankfully changed his mind!

Russell Brand and Katy Perry may have not had a chance to become the kooky, happy couple you see today if the British comedian hadn’t changed his mind about his future fiancee — he initially hated her!

In his upcoming release My Booky Wook 2 (the book will be released by Harper Collins on Sept. 30), the 35-year-old Brit says that after Katy, 26, threw a half-full bottle at his head during rehearsals for the 2009 VMA’s with the line, “Got you on the head, huh? Kind of an easy target – it’s big and you’ve got that ridiculous hair,” he wanted to “pull her hair” but “asked her out instead.” The rest is history.

“You’ll think it frivolous of me to say I knew I’d marry her on that first date. The truth is I fell in love with her when she hit me with that bottle,” he writes, adding, “From the first date, I changed. No more women. Well, actually, thousands of women. I wake up to a different one each day, they’re all her. She chose me, bottled me and cuffed me. And now this is my life, my girl, this beautiful woman.”

For all you doubters, Russell says it IS true love. ‘I begin to understand what these symptoms are,” he says in the book. “I look at her and it makes me feel still.”

Just a little over a year later, the two are headed down the aisle — and soon! Katy’s BFF, Rihanna, threw her a bachelorette party in Las Vegas last weekend. From the sounds of it, Russell can’t wait to say ‘I do.’
