In a surprise upset Blake Lively’s new film bests boyfriend Penn Badgley’s ‘Easy A,’ which had been expected to take the weekend!
It was a Gossip Girl battle at the box office this weekend as offscreen couple Blake Lively and Penn Badgley both had supporting roles in the weekend’s two biggest films — The Town and Easy A. In the end, The Town pulled off a surprise win with $23.6 million due to a cast that included Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall, Jeremy Renner, and actor and director Ben Affleck. Easy A meanwhile, starring the hysterical, adorable and extremely talented Emma Stone pulled in $18.3 million according to our sister site Deadline Hollywood.
Rounding out the top 5 were the new horror film Devil with $12.7 million, last week’s winner Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D with $10 million, and new toon Alpha & Omega with $9 million.
Next week looks to be very crowded at the box office with the highly anticipated Wall Street 2 : Money Never Sleeps opening as well as Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole and the new Kristen Bell and Betty White comedy You Again.
