Looking like a boy is entirely 4-year-old Shiloh’s decision, Angie insists in a new interview for Stylist!
Apparently the strong-willed little Shiloh Jolie-Pitt hated having long hair! “Shiloh cried and cried and said, ‘Please cut my hair off, I don’t want to have long hair,'” Angelina Jolie says in the new issue of Stylist magazine. “I’m not going to leave it long because somebody thinks I should. I want to do what’s in her heart and what’s in her heart is to dress like that. I think it’s beautiful!”
“It’s not my choice,” Angie explains. “I have a very strong willed four-year-old girl who tells me what she wants to wear and I let her be who she is. People look at kids and think they should wear certain types of clothes; I think children should wear what they want and express themselves, so we give them different options. My other daughter Zahara, 5, dresses very much like a girl, very pink and flowery, very feminine.”
Angie’s kids already have a basic understanding of fame. “We keep it as simple as ‘Mommy and Daddy do movies, so people take pictures sometimes,'” Angelina says. “It bothers them sometimes, it scares them sometimes, but we try to keep it as far away from them as possible.”
She continues: “We live differently everywhere we go and try to make it as normal as we can. There are certainly places where we have more freedom. At our house in Cambodia we can ride elephants and hang out in the streets and be with the local people. The kids feel very at home.”
But she admits that it’s not always easy bringing her brood around the world: “Certain cities are harder,” Angie admits. “It depends on how much press and heat is on you. I used to live in New York in my early 20s and I used to just walk block after block. I want that for my children. They have it with their friends; they go out and they do things separage from us and have more freedom when we’re no around.”
And Angie doesn’t let the price of fame get her down: “There are so many wonderful, positive things that have happened in my life,” she says. “I don’t mind [the fame]. I’m fortunate that I have a great partner [Brad Pitt] and the children have a wonderful father.”
And even with her hectic schedule, Angie and Brad still manage to share some alone time. “Once every week or two, we’ll ask somebody to spend the night, so we can go and be alone together,” Angie dishes. “We just go to another part of the house and lock the door!”
