After a devastating miscarriage two-and-a-half years ago, the British singer confirms that she’s expecting and on her way to fulfilling her “main goal in life.”
Lily Allen has made no secret of her desire to become a mom, and yesterday she announced her dream is becoming a reality — the 25-year-old singer and her boyfriend of a year, builder Sam Cooper, 32, are having a baby! Lily told The Sun newspaper, “It brings me great pleasure to tell you that Sam and I are expecting our first child. It goes without saying that we are both absolutely delighted.” And we’re delighted for her, too!
The “Smile” singer has certainly gotten a lot of attention for her wild antics over the years, but just last month she shared her belief that motherhood would give her something “more solid, something that exists, that makes me feel more grounded.”
Lily, who suffered a devastating miscarriage when she was 22, sounds like she understands the realities of the job, telling Elle UK, “Kids take up your whole life, particularly in the first two or three years.”
It sounds like the baby has been in the planning for a while. At the Brit Awards in February Lily announced that she was taking a five-year hiatus from music to start a family, but despite the happy news, she isn’t stepping away from the microphone just yet. Her spokesperson says that ”Lily’s professional commitments will carry on as normal, including a scheduled performance at the Big Chill this weekend.”
We bet there will be a big (non-alcoholic) celebration backstage! Congratulations, Lily!
